Old Business:
- Larry Johnson asked about the status of membership renewals for
2008. Eric Markwardt provided the updates that he had and stated
that a final membership renewal form will be sent out with the April
newsletter. Members that haven't renewed by mid-May will be dropped
from the membership and distribution lists.
The Secretary was requested
to have an up to date membership list at the May monthly meeting.
- Discussion took place regarding the truck and ATV pulls that the
PCAA will be helping with and running at the Ellsworth Cheese Curd
Festival in June. Roughly 15 volunteers are needed for each event.
Scott Jones is coordinating both the truck and the ATV pulls. The
committee handling this event will have a meeting prior to the May PCAA
meeting and will provide an update at that time.
- Quite a bit of progress was made in March on the ATV Routes in several townships:
- Spring Lake township will be opening all roads on May 15th.
Signing will take place on May 10th following a pancake breakfast fund
raiser at Sneakers in Spring Lake. The breakfast will start at
8:00am and signing will take place after that.
- Gilman township has approved a corridor between Martell and
Spring Lake townships. ATVs will be allowed on 770th Ave from the
border with Martell township east to 750th Ave, east on 750th to 410th
St, south on 410th to 690th St, and then east on 690th to Olivet and
the border withSpring Lake township.
- Martell township has approved routes on all township roads.
- Ellsworth township has approved routes on on 450th Ave, 610th
St, and 570th Ave west of 610th St to the Village of Ellsworth. Other
township roads will be openfor town residents to access the ATV Routes.
- El Paso township is still up in the air at this point.
- Trimbelle township should be voting on a route ordinance at their May meeting.
- Ron Anderson has been talking to Pierce County about using
county roads for short distances to access Elmwood and/or Spring
Valley. Discussions continue.
- Signing will happen in Gilman, Martell, and Ellsworth townships
as time and funding permit. We may try to just get a corridor open in
Martell as a first step.
- Kris Jones provided an update on the candle sale fund raiser. There's still time left to get orders in.
- Dave Swenson held a meat raffle at the T-Bar on April 24th and
another is scheduled for May 8th. Each raffle brings in approximate
$200 to the PCAA.
New Business:
- A committee needs to be formed to start working on a printed map
now that we've getting routes opened up. Discussions will
continue at the next meeting.
- It was suggested that we get an article published in the Pierce
County Herald in the near future to talk about the routes that are
open, etc. Discussions will continue at the next meeting.
- An ATV Safety class was held in Spring Valley in early
April. 11 students completed the course. Attendance is
thought to have been impacted by hunters safety classes happening at
the same time and a lack of advertising. Discussions took place around
when to have another class and the concensus seemed to be to hold it in
late August, after the Pierce County Fair and before school
starts. Eric Markwardt will ask Henry Marson, PCAA Training
Coordinator, to get a class scheduled and see if the Ellsworth Rod and
Gun Club is available to hold the class at.
- Discussions took place regarding changing the Bylaws to stagger
the election of Officers and Board Members so that only 1/2 of the
Executive Committee members are potentially replaced each year.
Eric Markwardt will draft the proposed changes to the Bylaws and
present them for discussion and a possible vote at the May meeting.
- Dave Swenson suggested that a 50/50 raffle be held at the meeting
as a new fund raiser. Tickets were sold and the club made $63 dollars.
Jerry Punches won the raffle and donated a portion of his winnings back
to the club.
- A pancake breakfast benefit will be held at Sneakers in Spring
Valley starting at 8:00am on Saturday, May 10th. Following the
breakfast signing of the routes in Spring Lake township will take place.
Motion to adjourn by Teresa O'Connell, seconded by Ron Anderson. Motion carried.
The next meeting will be at 7:00pm on May 19th at the T-Bar, W6087 US Hwy 10, Ellsworth
